App & Web Development
Websites, web platforms and native iPhone and Mac apps, built to be used rather than pitched. More than 19 apps and web platforms shipped to production, with others in development.
Who it suits, what it includes, what you own
- Who it suits
- Small businesses and owner-operators who need a site, a platform or an app that does a specific job: bookings, galleries, member accounts, or a tool your team uses every day. AI-assisted development means a custom build that once needed an agency budget is now within reach of a small business.
- What it includes
-
- Websites: marketing sites and landing pages, hosted on SiteGround, WordPress or Vercel.
- Web platforms: bookings, accounts, dashboards and the systems behind them. Python, Dart or PHP, with Supabase for data and users.
- Native iPhone, iPad and Mac apps: built in Swift, with on-device AI where it fits, and submitted to the App Store with the listing written.
- Scoping down to what matters, weekly working demos, and a plan for what comes after launch.
- How it starts
- A free 30-minute call. You tell me what you want built. I tell you whether I can do it, then send a fixed quote before any work starts. No day rates.
- What you own
- Everything I build. Full source code, full documentation, full handover. No vendor lock-in, and no monthly retainer unless you want one. Accounts can sit in your name or mine, whichever suits you; we agree it in the scope.
- Ongoing costs
- Hosting, a domain, an Apple Developer account for App Store apps, and any paid services the product depends on. It depends on the platforms and tools your project needs. I set them out in the quote so there are no surprises.
- Limits
- I build the product. Ongoing marketing, content and customer support stay with you unless we agree otherwise. App Store review is Apple's decision, and its timing is not mine to promise.
What this looks like in practice
Illustrative scenarios. The scope of each build is agreed before it starts.
-
An iPhone app
Designed and built, then submitted to the App Store with the listing written. For example, a utility app that does one thing well.
-
On-device AI
Features that run on the phone itself, so the user's data doesn't have to leave it.
-
A web platform
User accounts, bookings or a custom player, built on Supabase and hosted on Vercel or AWS. Expected load is agreed as part of the scope.
-
A launch pack
The App Store listing, screenshots and keywords, and a short plan for what happens after launch.
Tools and platforms
Native Apple apps built in Swift for iPhone, iPad and Mac. Web platforms in Python, Dart or PHP, depending on what fits the project. Supabase for database and user management. Hosted on AWS, Vercel, SiteGround or WordPress, whichever makes sense for your size and budget.
How it works
-
Scope
I cut the feature list down to what matters: the shortest path to something people can use.
-
Build
You see progress every week with working demos, not status reports.
-
Ship
Your product launches with what it needs: App Store listing, marketing assets, analytics, and a plan for what comes next.
One example
RS Talent is a London talent agency. I rebuilt their website with actor headshot galleries, filtering, PDF downloads and an automated Spotlight data pipeline. It's live.
For a web platform, see Peppers, a streaming service for independent, alternative and vintage cinema, with user accounts and a custom player. Skinfresh, an Auckland skin clinic, is getting a rebuild: treatment menu, booking flow and enquiry routing. It's in development and launching soon.
