ScreenshotScribe
AI image renaming that runs entirely on your Mac. Cryptic screenshot names become meaningful descriptions, automatically.
Version 2.0.1. macOS 26.0 (Tahoe) or later, Apple Silicon.
What it does
AI naming
Choose FastVLM 0.5B for speed or Qwen2.5 VL 3B for richer descriptions. Both run on-device via MLX.
Folder watching
Monitor folders for new screenshots. They are renamed as soon as they appear.
Drag and drop
Drop any image onto the menu bar panel to rename it with an AI-generated description.
Pattern matching
Configure glob patterns like 'Screenshot*', 'SCR-*' or 'Capture*' so only the files you want are processed.
Notifications
macOS notifications tell you when files are renamed in the background.
One-click undo
Reverse any rename with a single click, up to 30 seconds after. The panel keeps a history of your last 20 renames.
Before and after

Privacy
Your images never leave your Mac. ScreenshotScribe uses Apple's MLX framework to run a vision model locally on your Apple Silicon chip. No internet connection is needed after the initial model download.
Requirements
- macOS 26.0 (Tahoe) or later
- Apple Silicon (M1, M2, M3 or M4)
- 500 MB to 2 GB of free disk space, depending on the AI model you choose

How it works
Install and launch
Download the DMG, run the installer and launch ScreenshotScribe from Applications. It appears in your menu bar.
