Peppers
A streaming platform for cinema outside the mainstream.
Client, problem and scope
- Client
- Verve Bee Media. Peppers is a Verve Bee Media platform: a curated streaming service spanning independent shorts, documentaries, experimental work and restored vintage classics, alongside exclusive originals.
- The problem
- A new streaming service needed a whole platform before it could launch: a catalogue, a player built for film, viewer accounts, and tools so the catalogue could grow without a developer in the loop.
- Role and scope
- I built the whole platform: catalogue, custom player, user accounts, the browse experience and the content management tools behind it.
- Delivery state
- Live since 2026.
The solution in use
Viewers land on a featured title, then browse carousel rows and themed collections. Films, shorts, series, pilots and documentaries are organised by genre and theme, from restored silent classics to new originals that premiere on the platform. Registered viewers come back to their catalogue, with exclusive and coming-soon titles flagged.
What was built
-
Custom player
Streaming playback built for film, with poster art, runtime and release metadata on every title.
-
Curated catalogue
Films, shorts, series, pilots and documentaries organised by genre and theme, from restored silent classics to new work.
-
User accounts
Registration and sign-in so viewers can come back to their catalogue, with exclusive and coming-soon titles flagged.
-
Exclusive originals
A home for original shorts and films that premiere on the platform, presented alongside the archive catalogue.
-
Browse experience
Carousel rows and themed collections, like Vintage Vault and Filmed in Italy, make a small catalogue feel rich to explore.
-
Content management
Tools for adding titles, artwork and metadata so the catalogue grows without a developer in the loop.
Important decisions
Carousel rows and themed collections, like Vintage Vault and Filmed in Italy, were chosen so a small catalogue feels rich to explore.
The player was built for film, with poster art, runtime and release metadata on every title.
Adding titles, artwork and metadata is done through the content tools, so the catalogue grows without a developer in the loop.

Lucas built our entire streaming platform in weeks. We'd been quoted months by agencies.
