Butter Language School
An online English teaching platform.
Client, problem and scope
- Client
- Butter Language School, run by Morgan Butterfield. Morgan is a qualified English teacher with a TEFL, QTS and PGCE, and over 10 years of teaching experience across 9 countries: Japan, Nepal, India, West Africa, London and Colombia. She is based in Colombia and sells group and private English classes to students around the world.
- The problem
- Bookings ran through WhatsApp messages, spreadsheets and manual email coordination. Morgan needed something purpose-built: students who can browse, book, pay and manage their schedule online, and an admin side she can run without anyone technical.
- Role and scope
- I designed and built the whole platform: group classes, private lessons, Stripe payments, student management, the admin dashboard and email automation.
- Delivery state
- Live since 2026. Built in 4 weeks.
The solution in use
Students browse classes, book and pay online, and manage their own schedule. Morgan runs everything from the admin dashboard: classes, schedules, bookings, students, cancellations and pricing, without writing a line of code.
What was built
-
Group classes
10 class types, including English Games Night, Grammar of Song and Topical Tuesdays. Recurring schedules with group pricing from $2 per session.
-
Private lessons
One-on-one or small group, up to 4 friends. Students share a booking link. Guests get the meeting details by email, no account needed.
-
Stripe payments
Checkout sessions, class bundles with 2-month expiry, automated billing. Students pay online and Morgan gets paid directly.
-
Student management
Student accounts, booking history, class attendance tracking and bundle balance management, all visible from the admin dashboard.
-
Admin dashboard
Morgan manages everything herself: create classes, set schedules, view bookings, handle cancellations, without touching code.
-
Email automation
Booking confirmations, class reminders, guest invitations for shared private lessons and cancellation notices, all automated via Resend.
Built with Next.js, Tailwind CSS, Supabase, Stripe, Resend and Vercel.
Important decisions
The design had to be warm, playful and personality-driven, reflecting Morgan's teaching style, not a corporate LMS.
Friends invited to a shared private lesson get the meeting details by email and never need an account.
Every admin task, from creating a class to handling a cancellation, is in the dashboard so Morgan never depends on anyone technical.
Results
Measurement is pending.
